California Road Trip: Highway 1, Big Sur, and San Francisco

TRAVEL POST ALERT!!!

**AIR HORN**

We (Stephen) were searching for a December getaway and ended up hedging our bets on a road trip in Northern California in the midst of its rainiest season (though we live underwater in Toron’o so we have grown gills). HOWEVER, Stephen is the luckiest person alive so we were #blessed with dry weather. This was also due to a drought and forest fires SO actually not fantastic.

ANYWAY, due to some R1 road closures between LA and San Francisco, we decided to stick to San Francisco and Big Sur, arguably the most beautiful parts of the coast.

AND, after MUCH TO-DO (nagging), Stephen has finally finished the photos from the trip! Wahoo!!

Ventana Big Sur

When we arrived in California, we zipped down to VENTANA, our resort for the first half of the trip. I can’t even make a joke here, Ventana is AMAZING.

Gorgeous rooms, a surprise welcome gift (addressed to only Stephen so he FOUGHT ME FOR IT!), and breathtaking views. Plus, the staff were AMAZING – gave us great recommendations for hiking and grabbing food in the area. I wish I could say this is a paid sponsorship but IT’S NOT! The opposite, actually. Stephen did take some baller photos, though.

In the evening, we raced out to catch this burning hot SUNSET! Even the staff said they’d never seen anything like it before.

Like wut?!?! How is this place located in a redwood forest AND at the coastline AND mountains I DON’T UNDERSTAND. California real estate prices now make more sense tho.

The views from the restaurant, The Sur House, couldn’t be beat either. If you’re in Big Sur and going the camping route, consider popping up here for a drink to watch the sunset.

Highway 1 Road Trip and Big Sur Exploring

The next few days were spent exploring beautiful state parks.

We rode in *12-year-old boy lisp* SUPER STYLE in our rented Mustang. BAM!

Stephen’s Only Request: Visit the Tesla Factory

If you know Stephen, you know that his wildest fantasies involve Elon Musk driving up in a cherry red Tesla Roadster to declare his love for Stephen and/or request that he become his personal assistant.

THUS, we HAD to go and literally DRIVE around the Tesla factory and take a picture in front of it. That’s it.

At one point, we were followed by a security van for suspiciously driving in circles around the factory!! But IF MAKING MY BABY HAPPY IS A CRIME, THEN CUFF ME, OFFICER!!!

Arrive in San Francisco!

Once we made it to SF, we dropped off our things and had a quick glass of wine at the adorable Hotel Drisco (DID I MENTION IT WAS CHRIMBUS TIME!!), then met our friend Addision for dinner at Brenda’s French Soul Food. YAS GREASY BEIGNETS YAS LIVE JAZZ BAND.

Stephen makes fun of me because I wear all black 6-7 days per week but IT’S CLASSY STEP OFF

Alcatraz

On Day 2, we went HAM on tourist crap. *buckles fannypack on aggressively* If you go to San Fran, definitely go to Alcatraz! Worthwhile because 1) interesting HISTORY 2) great tours 3) BOAT RIDE on the bay 4) best views of the skyline. IF YOU CAN HANDLE THE #SPOOP.

Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour and Golden Gate Bridge

Next, since we only had one full day in the city, a bus tour was a great way to cover as much ground as possible. AND YOU GET TO DRIVE OVER DAT GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE!
